For subtle branding, use 15-30% opacity so the watermark is visible but doesn't distract from the image. For stronger copyright protection, use 40-60% opacity. Fully opaque watermarks (100%) are typically only used for 'draft' or 'sample' overlays.

The bottom-right corner is the most common placement for branding watermarks. For copyright protection, place the watermark across the center of the image - this makes it harder to crop out. Diagonal or tiled watermarks provide the strongest protection against unauthorized use.
