HEIC Converter

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It offers better compression than JPG but isn't supported everywhere.

HEIC is not natively supported on older Windows, Linux, or many websites. Converting to JPG gives you universal compatibility.

Starting with iOS 11, Apple uses HEIC (based on the HEVC/H.265 codec) as the default photo format because it produces files roughly 50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality. You can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats by selecting 'Most Compatible' to save as JPEG instead.

Safari on macOS and iOS supports HEIC natively. Chrome added experimental HEIC support on macOS in 2023. Firefox, Edge, and Chrome on Windows/Linux do not support HEIC natively. This tool uses a JavaScript decoder (heic2any) so it works in all modern browsers regardless of native support.

There is a small quality loss when converting to JPG since both HEIC and JPG use lossy compression. For best results, use a quality setting of 85-95%. If you need lossless output, convert to PNG instead - the file will be larger but there will be no additional quality loss.
