The tool uses high-quality bicubic interpolation to enlarge your image, then applies an unsharp mask filter to enhance edges and perceived sharpness. Everything runs in your browser.

2x (doubles width and height) and 4x (quadruples resolution). A 500x500 image becomes 1000x1000 at 2x or 2000x2000 at 4x.

Upscaling can improve perceived sharpness of low-res images via smart sharpening, but it cannot recover detail that wasn't captured. It works best with images that are small but clear.

This tool uses traditional bicubic interpolation with sharpening - it's fast, private, and runs locally. AI upscaling (like Topaz or Stable Diffusion) can hallucinate new detail for more dramatic results, but requires uploading your image to a server and often costs money. For most use cases, smart sharpening produces clean, usable results.

The limit depends on your device's memory. At 4x, a 2000x2000 image becomes 8000x8000 (64 megapixels), which most modern devices handle fine. For very large source images, use 2x to stay within browser memory limits.
