Pace = Time / Distance. For example, if you run 3 miles in 24 minutes, your pace is 24/3 = 8:00 per mile. This calculator lets you enter any two of distance, time, or pace and automatically calculates the third.
It varies greatly by fitness level. Beginner runners often run 10-12 min/mile. Intermediate runners 8-10 min/mile. Advanced runners 6-8 min/mile. Elite runners under 5 min/mile. Focus on your own progress rather than comparing to others.
To convert min/mile to min/km, divide by 1.60934. To convert min/km to min/mile, multiply by 1.60934. For example, 8:00/mile = 4:58/km, and 5:00/km = 8:03/mile.
Negative splits mean running the second half of a race faster than the first half. This is considered an optimal race strategy because it prevents early burnout and allows you to finish strong. Many world records have been set with negative splits.
