Americans use Fahrenheit. The rest of the world uses Celsius. If you travel, cook international recipes, or read non-US weather forecasts, you need to convert.
Quick Reference
- 0C = 32F (water freezes)
- 10C = 50F (cool day, jacket weather)
- 20C = 68F (comfortable room temperature)
- 30C = 86F (hot summer day)
- 37C = 98.6F (body temperature)
- 100C = 212F (water boils)
The Formula
F = (C x 9/5) + 32
C = (F - 32) x 5/9
Or skip the math: the Temperature Converter does it instantly for any value.
Quick Mental Math Trick
For a rough estimate: double the Celsius number and add 30.
25C: double = 50, add 30 = 80F. (Actual: 77F. Close enough for weather.)
This trick works well in the 0-30C range. It breaks down at extremes but it's handy for everyday use.
